wanted to comment about PM Lee's comment about young, first-time voters supporting them. but i'm sian. "PM Lee says PAP's programmes, team strike chord with younger voters" all i can say is they have a long way to go, to change, to morph into something more than the mere PAP machinery they currently are. frankly, i've not been won over yet. a few points.

1. We are not bloody rabbits. Do not insult us by merely repeatedly dangling carrots in front of us. Unless you show some creativity, we probably won't bite.

2. I absolutely abhor and find wrong the system of selective upgrading. everybody pays the same taxes, no matter where they stay. now, unless the government lessens the tax on opposition wards, this current (or should i say, old-school politics) of "rewarding" your own political supporters is so passe. what i find totally wrong and detestable is the oh-so-wrong mixing of party politics and the governing of an entire country. If anything, it merely goes to show the uninventiveness of the ruling party. surely, you can think of better ways to 'fix' the opposition? The interests and progress of the country should always take priority over the interests of any political party. till the party changes in this aspect, i will find it hard to strike a chord. and you know what i think is the worst thing? that there are only 2 areas that is so called 'opposition'. surely the government can use those scholarly brains of theirs to somehow figure out a way to chip off a chip of the gazillions of funds meant for their 'own' areas, to allocate it to those 2 areas? otherwise, they definitely cannot justify their exhorbitant salaries.

having said all that, if i were to enter politics, i'd probably rather be a PAP candidate. besides ensuring my future is stable, i also think support from the people in general (of course, i think this support for the ruling party will have to be earned and re-earned) helps. but i'd never allow myself to be taken into parliament under the wings of some miniser in a grc. i believe in earning your position. but that is for the future.

hopefully i do not write any more political stuff. i'm bored and becoming boring myself. in conclusion, my major gripe is that respect should be earned. fight your own way in. your father is great doesn't automatically mean you deserve your position. got to prove your worth you know.
